The Catalogue
“Emancipation and Confrontation” documents both the emergence of a new, postwar generation of artists, and the way art has developed between then and now. In addition to painting, sculpture, photography, video art and installations have also gained in importance, and have been presented accordingly. Many of the artists native to Carinthia such as Maria Lassnig, Kiki Kogelnik, Bruno Gironcoli, Cornelius Kolig, Kurt Kocherscheidt or Heimo Zobernig have made their mark on the history of art beyond the confines of Carinthia. Described here within a cultural-historical context are the significant artistic developments that have taken place, and the protagonists introduced with important examples of their work. Carinthia’s contribution to modern architecture and art in public space is paid tribute to here for the first time. Projects are exemplarily presented and the typically Carinthian prerequisites critically analyzed. A publication that offers a profound insight into all spheres of artistic production.
