MMKK
The exhibition in the MMKK – the Carinthian Museum of
Modern Art in Klagenfurt - presents extensively, by means of
selected examples of paintings and sculptures from five decades,
Carinthia’s contribution to the visual arts after 1945 down to
present tendencies. Influential far beyond Carinthia’s borders,
artists such as Hans Bischoffshausen, Johann Fruhmann, Bruno
Gironcoli, Cornelius Kolig, Wolfgang Hollegha, Maria Lassnig, Kiki
Kogelnik, Arnulf Rainer, and Hans Staudacher have been essential
elements in shaping Austrian art after 1945. In the 1960ies many
of them went to live and work in Vienna, Paris or New York. The
bow then spans to those artists who in the 70ies shaped art in
Carinthia and beyond, such as Kurt Kocherscheidt, Gustav Januš,
Reimo Wukounig, Peter Krawagna, Giselbert Hoke, Valentin Oman,
Wolfgang Walkensteiner. The continuity of painting leads on to the
younger generation with exhibits by Franco Kappl, Richard Kaplenig,
Claus Prokop, Heiko Bressnik, and others. Today’s matter-of-course
open access to all the media of the arts is documented by object
art and video works by, among others, Gudrun Kampl, Viktor Rogy,
Bella Ban, Jochen Traa, and Ernst Logar. In the Burg Chapel art
room Johannes Domenig exhibits his The Last Support.
