Werner Berg Museum
Initiated in 1968 the Werner Berg Museum in Bleiburg is dedicated to the presentation of the work in the fields of painting and the graphic arts of Werner Berg, who is counted among the most eminent painters of the 20th century in Carinthia. Beginning with his reduced shapes in figure, portrait and landscape developed by the artist in the fifties, exhibition deals with the constructivist aspects of painting down to the present day. It was above all older generation for which the geometrical style was an important phase in their early work. This is demonstrated by means of selected exhibits from the work Wolfgang Hollegha, Hans Bischoffshausen, Kiki Kogelnik. It is the first time that the continuity of concrete tendencies in Carinthian art is carried on as far as to the manifold reinterpretations by present-day artists. In this respect paintings sculptures by Marianne Bähr, Angelika Kaufmann, Manuel Knapp, Edgar Knoop, Suse Krawagna, Eric Kressnig, Zorka L-Weiss, Eduard Lesjak, Manfred Mörth, Ferdinand Penker, Ulrich Plieschnig, Rudolfine P. Rossmann, Karl Vouk, Gertrud Weiss-Richter, and Heimo Zobernig are put into a fascinating dialogue.
