Schaukraftwerk Forstsee

Situated on one of the finest sites on lake Wörthersee the
oldest storage power station in the land (1924) was designed by
the architect Franz Eduard Baumgartner in typical Carinthian villa
style. Still functioning as a power station, the plant, which is open
to visitors, offers not only a glimpse into the technology of electricity
production, but also a very special locale for art exhibitions. Within the
scope of K08 the Forstsee Power Plant presents the two Carinthian
artists 1Elke Maier and 2Gernot Fischer-Kondratovich. Elke Maier’s art
shows her individual dealing with wood and other organic materials.
In a sensitive dialogue with nature and the specific facts of the place
Elke Maier develops installative interventions that relate directly to
the architecture of the power plant and the landscape around. In his
presentation “Small World – Large Place” (Kleine Welt – Großer
Platz) Gernot Fischer-Kondratovich stages painting and cartoon film
in the power station. Together with the impressions gained on his
numerous travels, historic and topical pictures from the world of the
media are the reservoir from which he draws the material both for the
panel paintings and his animated cartoons, the music for which has
also been written and interpreted by the artist himself.
